A bit of an info write-up.
Canon is Puppet Master, Finest Creation. A few points of reference information, I suppose: Hayden technically doesn't identify as either gender, but the doll often refers to them as "father", and so did their daughter, and by most standards, yeah, they're a dad. Their family tree is largely a mix of Chinese immigrants and English (thus their name), so yeah, no accent here. Born and raised English. Can speak Cantonese and English. Somewhere in mid-thirties, probably. Worked as a scientist for an unknown number of years. We don't know what year the setting takes place in, but it's probably fair to say it's around the dawn of the industrial revolution, or just before it, or something like that.
Was designated female at birth. (This is because Yan He is a female Vocaloid.) Even so, they had a lover, at one point. Had their own child. It didn't work out, but they kept the kid and loved them VERY much. They retired from their science work (likely some branch of biology-related research) in order to fall back on their hobby, doll-making and selling, and opened a small shop for it. ... There was a... horrible accident of some kind in which the kid died. Hayden was crushed by this, and it mentally broke them. They took to a warped kind of insanity, created a doll filled with life, and, well... at first, it was beautiful. A gorgeous doll, alive from the onset. Possibly even with their daughter's soul inside, although maybe unaware of this.
... But every time they showed the doll to other people, people would compare it to the "real thing" and remark that this or that wasn't right, causing them to further slip into insanity. So they'd cut into the doll, smash things, remove them, fix them. At first it was benign parts. But eventually the criticism got to be too much, and finally, the good puppeteer snapped, and began taking human parts from the people who criticized the doll to attach to it. Sewed its mouth shut. Gouged out its eyes. Etc. It ended up more a tangled rotting corpse than a beautiful doll, and still they continue to toil over it, endlessly hoping to perfect it.
... They haven't been caught yet.
Some miscellany: Hayden is absolutely terrible about insomnia bouts and often forgets to eat. Very underweight. Views a lot of things as an experiment, too. Their voice is very quiet and shaky, but androgynous. They have a bit of a constant stutter, sometimes, when upset. Their eyes are blue and their hair is white. They pretty much live on tea. Food? Taking care of yourself? NAH NOT IMPORTANT. Also, always carrying a small axe.
